Volume Correction

The most commonly reported side effects with treatment were redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, discoloration, and itching. For some, dryness was also reported. However, these side effects are consistent with other facial injection procedures and most will resolve with time. Your doctor may choose to treat side effects persisting over 30 days with antibiotics, steroids, or hyaluronidase (an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid).

As with all skin injection procedures, there is a risk of infection.

Avoid the following: significant movement or massaging of the treated area unless instructed by the provider, strenuous exercise for 24 hours, extensive sun or heat for 72 hours, and consuming excess amounts of alcohol or salts to avoid excessive swelling.  Additionally,  if you have swelling, you may apply a cool compress for 15 minutes each hour, use Tylenol (acetaminophen) for discomfort, begin taking Arnica (typically found in health food stores) at least two days prior to injections to help the bruising and swelling, and wait a minimum of four weeks before skincare or laser treatments.
